Black Lake History
Black Lake is one of eighteen natural lakes in the Indian River Lakes system of St. Lawrence and Jefferson counties. It was formed approximately 15,000 years ago be the same glaciers that formed the great lakes.
Black Lake encompasses close to 11,000 acres stretching over 20 miles. It is the largest lake in St. Lawrence County, New York.
The towns of DePeyster, Hammond, Macomb, Morristown, Oswegatchie, and Rossie all border on Black Lake. The lake is known for fishing and large mouth bass, small mouth bass, walleye, bullhead, bluegill, catfish, bowfin and northern pike and all species commonly found in Black Lake.

The BLA Mission
Our mission as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation is to preserve and protect the eco-systems of the lake and to enhance water quality, fishery, boating safety, and aesthetics of the lake for the benefit of all people who frequent the lake and wildlife that inhabit both its water and shores.
The Black Lake Association carries out its mission by:
Disseminating educational, scientific, and community related information
Providing a conduit for concerns and a pathway for action for those in the Black Lake community
Collaborating with other conservancy and protection minded organizations, as well as official governmental bodies by partnering in activities of mutual interest
Cooperating with governmental agencies and towns located in the Black Lake water shed to protect and enhance water quality
Current Programs:
Water quality testing and initiative
Boat steward program for invasive aquatic species control
Prevention and control of phosphorous contamination of the lake and its watershed

2026 Black Lake Association Annual Election Meeting

Where: Mack's Restaurant in Edwardsville
Who: All are welcome. Only members are allowed to vote in the elections.
If you haven't already, you can renew your 2026 membership or become
a new member at the meeting. Dues are only $35/member. Please attend
and help us support the protection and upkeep of Black Lake.
